My day started at the Quays, and a very helpful discussion.

Before it I had time for a quick look at the Ship Canal. A boat was stationed on the other side of Mode Wheel Locks. And a solitary rower passed under the bridge, paused and then returned from whence he had come. The backdrop here is Allied Mills, and then residential blocks in and around Eccles town centre. Oddly, Centenary Bridge is out of view.

Travelling westward on the Canal there are three locks in Salford (Mode Wheel, Barton and Irlam) and then one in Warrington (Latchford) before the last long stretch to Eastham where the Canal enters the Mersey. The one with the best public access is at Latchford, where you really can appreciate the construction.

Today's high note. Returning to Swinton mid morning along the "secret road", in grey rainy weather, hundreds of martins flying and feeding overhead along one short section. Why are there no parking bays beside this easily accessible sewage treatment works :)
