Picnic

We've had a fabulous day today getting together with some of the girls and mums from Miss E's school.
We met at a river in a field in the middle of nowhere. It was a miracle we found it!!!
We stopped at M&S and bought picnic bits - the cupboards at home are bare again. It seems like no matter how much shopping I do the cupboards are perpetually bare!!!
It was quite a trek to get to the river. We parked in Castlethorpe and then walked - with our buckets, nets, bags, picnic blankets, swimming things and towels - across the fields and through the sheep (and the sheep poo).
Well I walked with all those things.
Like a packhorse.
In the boiling hot sunshine.
It was such a lovely day! The girls got straight into the river - swimming, catching fish, digging in the clay, sliding down the muddy banks into the water, rolling in the mud!!!
I didn't have any tea this morning (as there was no milk in the fridge!) and I was kicking myself for not making a flask of black tea and just buying milk in M&S. Thankfully Mrs S had brought a flask and rather than politely demurring when she offered it round I practically took her arm off!!!! I need my tea!
Lunch was lovely and then the kids all got back in the river and the mud! They LOVED it!!
Miss E went back to Miss A's for a sleepover tonight which she was giddy about. Miss L was less giddy, bless her!! She misses her sister tonight. They've spent the last seven weeks with each other hardly spending a minute apart and Miss L was distraught to see Miss E go off this afternoon.
But that's life!!
And she cheered up when we snuggled up on the sofa and watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Miss E Facetimed me at about 10pm. Very awake, very giggly and very happy!!!! They're planning on staying up all night apparently!
