Woodchester Mansion Green Men

Woodchester Mansion is a Grade 1 listed mock Gothic house in Gloucestershire. Begun in 1857 it was never completed, and the building is remarkable for having it's partially constructed rooms and "floating" fireplaces that line the unfloored walls of the rooms above the ground floor. There is also a pair of admittedly quite modern Green Men in the chapel.

Green Men are found in many old churches and are often accepted to be pre-Christian installations by the pagan stonemasons of the time, bringing the old religions into the new places of worship. In this case of course they are a homage to the older versions. Nevertheless they are fantastic work.

The whole place is made of stone, including the bath! This solid limestone coffin shaped bath even has hot and cold running wolves (see extra).
