Another Man's Shoes

We had a most interesting talk at U3A today from a lady called Ellie Targett advertising her book called Another Man's Shoes written by her late father and herself.

He was a Norwegian scientist who was in the Resistance in WW2. he was captured by the Nazis but escaped over the mountains to Sweden. He evaded being recaptured by walking in streams and swinging from tree to tree on branches so that tracker dogs couldn't follow his tracks.

Sixty years on some of his children and friends followed in his footsteps meeting some of the people that helped him along the way. One lady gave her a brown paper bag containing the shoes that he'd escaped in - he'd swapped them for a pair of boots better suited to mountain walking. They are pictured in my blip.

It underlined the bravery that many showed in the war.
