Above And Beyond...

Castell De Forna

On recommendaton we set off to visit Castell De Forna, about 30 minutes drive from our villa in Orba (Spain). We stopped off in Pego, a large village on the way, and I did find a hairdresser but she was outside having a fag and talking on her mobile and after waiting a few minutes I decided to take my custom elsewhere!

The blipfoto is an aerial view of the Forna Castle which dominates the valley and you can see the little village of Forna in the same frame. The medieval castle was built by the Moors to keep a watchful eye out for Christian soldiers sent to overthrow the Arabs and reclaim the land. This larger tower was originally a military or refuge watchtower (atalaya) during Almohad Islamic times (12th - 13th centuries) but it appears most of the castle dates from 1450's.

On coming back into Orba, we located the hairdresser but that was closed (siesta) so I'll try in the morning!  I'm sure the local shops would make more by staying open!
