So long then...

Today was the last Day of Telford College. It's been an Edinburgh Institution for 44 years.

As from Monday it will be the Edinburgh College Granton Campus.

There was a celebration of the history of teh college and the time we've had there as staff at the end of the day. I've been proud to work there for the last seven years and hope I will be equally proud of being an employee of Edinburgh College.

It was quite an emotional evening but I think broadly speaking the mood is hopeful, and we're all hoping that it can be shown these changes will have genuine educational merit and will continue to benefit the people the FE sector is there for rather than them just being put in place to cut spending. There's a worry from some in the sector, the unions in particular, that we're sometimes viewed as a soft target which, when hit with cuts, will not result in the same criticism as cuts to schools or Universities. We've been hit pretty savagely in recent years with cuts, and I think the hope now is that this will give us a more streamlined system which will insulate us from further cuts.

Whatever the future the staff will move forward with positivity and professionalism and continue to try and do our best to help people try and make positive change in their lives.
