Hail Mary Pass

That pretty well sums up today's Blip.  It was 5 in the evening when I suddenly realized I hadn't picked up a camera all day.  I glanced out the window and saw a tattered Giant Swallowtail on a pot of milkweed.  Grabbed my camera with the 300 mm lens, dashed outside, took a dozen shots, deleted 11 ... and here's my one shot of the day.  

In American football, a Hail Mary Pass is a play made in desperation with very little chance of success.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  You can decide if my Hail Mary Pass works or not.

SIL and I moved a little over a cord of firewood this morning from the driveway, all the way down the hill to the woodshed, one wheelbarrow at a time.  SIL womanned the wheelbarrow (since I tend to fall) and she and I both stacked.  Hard labor but also satisfying.  Still a big pile of wood in the driveway, but at least its smaller than it was this morning.

After lunch and a shower, went over to visit MIL who was in pain, but in a very happy mood.  Luckily, the doctor showed up about an hour after I got there and was able to examine her while I peppered him with questions.  He feels certain its her gall bladder so off to a specialist this week.  At least gall bladders are things that can be dealt with.  So, that is a bit of somewhat good news.

Released 8 monarchs today; 6 females and 2 males.  This brings my total for the year to 106.  Looks like only one will emerge tomorrow.  That will leave me with 25 chrysalids and approximately 15 more caterpillars.  I currently have 7 names waiting for releases...which means about 33 more butterflies need someone to fly with...
