Field Furrows

Our last day at the villa for this trip.  We made the most of the sunshine and finished our books plus tidying up so as to leave the place ready for another visit.  We left Algorfa late afternoon heading up for a coastal resort, Santa Pola, for a last look at the sea and a meal; we did not need to be at the airport until 9.30 for an 11.30pm flight back.  On the way out of Algorfa I asked my chauffeur to detour via this field I had noticed the previous day - the strong afternoon sun cast a  golden light which highlighted the furrows. Something has been carefully planted and the irrigation pipes laid out. I do not know the crop - it seems too densely planted to be citrus trees or globe artichokes - time will tell. It was hard to get the right angle on the furrows plus getting a camera lens through the fencing/hedging to see what was in the background. I made use of the tractor in the shot too.

We found a beachside diner for some food and then wandered along to look round the fishing port.  Here we found several stalls selling beautiful fresh fish likely to have been caught today and an interesting fish restaurant! We will go there another time.
Continuing our journey to Alicante airport, we had time to stop and have a drink.  John chose coffee but I opted for wine.  When we got the bill it was only just over 3 euros, with my large glass of wine only 20 cents more than John's coffee!  It was a chinese restaurant and the food looked good so maybe we will eat there too another time. Although we only pretty much get a 1-1 exchange rate pound to euro, whilst in Spain we found the prices very reasonable, almost cheap - or perhaps the UK is ridiculously expensive.

Alicante airport is quite pleasant late in the day when the big rush of flights is out.  The bagdrop queue was fast, getting through security no bother and the waiting areas not crowded. At Luton it didn't take long to go through passport control and pick up my luggage and there was hardly any traffic on the roads to get home. There are definite advantages to travelling very late.  There is, though, the disadvantage of not being home until after 2 am and we are both not very lively today - John has gone to work!
