Stuff and Nonsense

Kingfisher joy

Last day of my week working from home and the forecast was for rain this afternoon.  So I took the opportunity to have an early long lunch hour (or two!) as my husband, who was not working today, wanted to see the kingfisher at Pickering's Pasture. We set out at around 10:30am in bright sunshine and arrived to a very windy river Mersey a short while later.
At first we didn't see too much, but after 15 minutes or scouring the area with our binoculars, we managed to come up with quite a nice list - a distant curlew, a couple of buzzards, 2 dunlin, lots of cormorants, 2 greenshanks, masses of Canada geese, a grey wagtail, a wren, a robin, 4 little egrets and finally as the light worsened and the clouds rolled in, we saw the beautiful kingfisher. He did the full circuit of the pond landing on almost every post and doing some fishing. Only once did he sit on the nearest post(but still quite a distance from the hide), which is where my blip was taken, and the awful light eventually disappeared completely and the rain swept in :(
A lovely hour or so, and hubby was happy as he got to see the King!

Roll on the weekend - hope it's a good one :)
