Autumn

Today marks the first day of Autumn.  I'm ready. :)

As I mentioned yesterday, it seems as if our usual vibrant colours of reds, golds and oranges have not come into their own as in years past.  Now that our days are getting shorter, the leaves are not able to make as much chlorophyll which is what keeps them green.  The shorter days and lack of light enable us to see other colours emerge.

The recent very hot summer may also influence the brightness of the foliage as the best Autumn displays need sunny warm days with cool nights.  I'm also seeing a lot more leaves dying faster and falling to the ground and this would be due to them not having received enough water.

Nonetheless, it is Autumn and it's welcomed.
