The Crowhurst Yew / Vote for the Tree of the Year

This is the trunk of one of the 10 shortlisted English trees for the Woodland Trust 2017 tree of the year competition.  On finding that two of the English trees were in East Sussex I viewed them today to decide on my vote. The information plaque on this Yew reads" 1066 - 2016. This ancient tree was here in 1066 when King Harold owned the Manor of Crowhurst. In the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, we remember his close links with this part of Sussex."  Local legend has it that the invading Normans made some of their bows from wood from this very tree.  PS it has a girth of 9.08m.
The other Sussex tree is a Hornbeam dating from the 1400s in the Scotney Castle estate. In the extra- the top 2 photos are the Crowhurst Yew and the bottom two are the Scotney Hornbeam.
You can see which trees are in the short list in your area here. There are separate short lists for Scotland, Wales and NI. You need to vote before 10 October.
