First Rays

This is a corner of Bruntsfield Links taken as the first rays of sun this morning caught the Barclay Bruntsfield Church and a tree whose leaves had turned a fiery red.

The sun stayed out long enough for our bus trip to Lauder for lunch with friends I first knew 54 years ago, lost touch with for 40 years and refound several years back.

Not only was it wonderful to meet up, catch up on family news and fill two hours with laughter, but it was good to get out of town into the rolling border countryside resplendent in a golden autumn light with fields of straw bales and trees wearing the first colour tinges of their autumnal foliage.

The sun had disappeared as we journeyed home and it was grey and cold, but we were looking forward to having preprandial drinks with neighbours. There is nothing like seeing a beautifully tasteful home with lovely artefacts to make one see one's own home in a different light. We seem to have an over abundance of 'stuff'!

My extra image is a relic of the King GeorgeVI era. Unfortunately I am old enough to think it familiar.
