Beech Woodwart

We were in the woods today with a local fungi expert.  He did say that the number of species was much higher a few weeks ago despite it being national fungus day this weekend.  We did however find a whole variety of fungi many of which were very small.  This is the Beech Woodwart (Hypoxylon fragiforme), we also saw several Bracket fungi, Dead Mans Fingers which look just like the name, Candle Snuff, Charcoal Burner, Amethyst Deceiver see extras with some very small ones I have forgotten the name of.

An interesting morning and a place to revisit at different times of the year.
