Above And Beyond...

Reflection

Last night we met our friends in our local pub for a meal. He'd had the day from hell, and after a poor meal we headed back to my house to drink half a bottle of Glenlivet whisky.

About 9.25am in the morning, his neighbour was banging on John's door to come and help. The neighbour had found his 15 year old son hanging in the bedroom. John cut him down and did CPR, knowing that the boy was long dead, awaiting the police and ambulance. The lad had gone to bed about 10pm and his parents had found him just prior to calling John.

The really astonishing thing is that the lads older brother had done the same thing whilst studying at Manchester University just a few years ago. The parents will never get over it - how can you? And for it to happen twice??

I worked with John and we've seen a lot of death in our previous Police service but I could see the events were on his mind. He says he hugged his own 30 year old son afterwards and told him "I love you".

You never know what's going to happen; only a few days ago a 43 year old male Police Officer at Newport Central "dropped dead" whilst at briefing at the start of his shift - a 'heart attack' it appears.

The blipfoto is a rock pool reflection on Monknash beach, the Vale of Glamorgan coast, South Wales, as we enjoyed a long walk along it to Nash Point this afternoon.
