Not a flying saucer!

For a change from views looking out from the Orleans Hotel, here is a look at a light fitting right outside my room. At first it looks a bit like an art deco version of a model flying saucer. In fact it is a very attractive and efficient light source.

The Orleans Hotel and Casino has 1,885 rooms and a 135,000-square-foot (12,500 m2) casino in the Paradise area of Las Vegas.

The Hotel and Casino opened in 1996, and accordingly this dates the style of ceiling light to the mid-nineties. When the casino first opened, it did not perform up to expectations and so in 1999 a major addition to the casino and other amenities were added.

The success of these changes has brought about the continued expansions in later years. The Orleans Arena was added in 2003. A second hotel tower was added in 2004 to increase the number of rooms.

You can see my recent blips from my Orleans hotel room, posted on September 26, 27 & 30th.
