The High Line

Gavin and I had a lovely run in Central Park this morning and came back feeling on top of the world, but poor Thomas was feeling even worse than yesterday. After breakfast we decided to go and walk the High Line as it was such a beautiful day - sunny and very warm. We tried to get a subway train there and after paying for tickets we found the train was not running and had severe delays! As Thomas was feeling poorly, we decided to rather get a taxi there. I had stopped off at a pharmacy and bought him some cold and flu medication so by now he was feeling a bit better and was keen to do this walk. It is a walk from 14th to 34th Streets on a disused overhead railway line, so has lovely views on the city below. There are gardens along the way and I saw many butterflies. However, it was so hot, it was meant to be 23C but felt more like 30C in the baking sunshine so we quickly finished the walk as Thomas needed to get in to the shade and rest.

After a rest we got a taxi down to Pier 17, only to find that it was closed due to building works but we could still see the Brooklyn Bridge from Pier15. I do miss the London taxi drivers - most times they had difficulty understanding where we were going and I cannot say the rides are very comfortable! We then found somewhere for lunch, and afterwards walked to another subway, and got the train up to Times Square. It was so busy and crowded we did not stay there too long. We walked up 5th Avenue back to our hotel, collected our bags and got a taxi to the airport where we are now waiting for our flight.
