On the river

We went up to town today - a 40 minute train ride from Hampton to Vauxhall where my daughter went off to visit friends and my brother and I went off for a wander.

Later on we took a river bus up to London Bridge and back, then met up with my daughter for a further walk along the river side.

Cranes everywhere and so much new building in London - a huge range of shapes, some interesting, some pretty weird! This is a selection - in the centre is the Gherkin, technically 30, St Mary Axe, and on the right the Leadenhall Building, otherwise known as the Cheesegrater, the tallest building in the city of London and recently sold to Hong Kong food giant Lee Kum Kee for £1.28bn. Further downriver is the Walkie Talkie Building, officially 20, Fenchurch Street, voted the most hated building in Britain. The concave windows can magnify the sun and have melted car parts!
