A meeting with Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell

Today's blip is a bit more serious than that of yesterday (with goats) ;-)

Here Mr hazelh is telling the renowned physicist Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell about his final year astrophysics project in which he performed a numerical simulation of a supernova explosion. I blipped this shot towards the end of a reception held at the Royal Society of Edinburgh this evening. Prior to this Dame Jocelyn delivered a superb, and very accessible, presentation on her discovery of pulsars 50 years ago in 1967 - with some very interesting commentary on attitudes to young female scientists in the 1960s. All in all, it was a great event.

In other news today we have been planning a trip to Naples (most likely in February) and on my way to this evening's meeting I popped round to see my friend Véronique for a cup of tea and an overdue catch-up.

Exercise today: 10 mile cycle ride (52 minutes) along the Roseburn path; walking (9524 steps)
