Standin' in line

A long journey down to the coast to watch a referee this afternoon and ultimately a waste of time as it was such a one-sided match with the visitors running away 3 - 68 winners. It told me nothing much about the referee nor did it provide him much in the way of challenge. Makes it a challenge too, to write a report.

Also challenging for outside photography as the light was dull and flat. This was the best I could do. I was trying to capture individual expressions at moments of rest. Here at a lineout, a jumper is watching the thrower-in to time his jump (or rather his assisted jump) for the ball. Not quite what I wanted but as I say, the best of the bunch.

His side was so much younger, fitter and stronger than the older men who were the opposition. There were many grey hairs about and portly figures who the opposition could run through or around. It was rather more interesting on the adjacent pitch where another of the Kent Society refs was officiating and having a bit of bother with some handbagging during the game.
