An ordinary life....

Backblip

After a false start with attempting to make up the natural light studio for the flower photography course I'm doing (foam boards arrived damaged) the new boards arrived today.  Had hoped to get the studio made before Eleanor and Kenny arrived and was just about to start when got a phone call to say David's uncle Hugh has passed away.

Hugh and his late wife Margaret were David's mum and dad's closest friends and both couples raised their families together so they were always known as uncle and aunt and David and Eleanor and their four children considered themselves cousins.  Hugh and Margaret owned two Golden retrievers when David was growing up and it was Dougall and Paddy who fostered David's love of the breed.

When I started going out with David, Hugh and Margaret welcomed me with open arms and they become my aunt and uncle too.  So may happy memories of time spent at their beautiful home.  Margaret was a born hostess and was at her happiest when her house was full to the brim with family and friends all having a wonderful time.

Hugh was in his 80s and had been ill for a while and his death isn't unexpected but there is extra sadness as he was the last one left of that generation and it feels like the end of an era.

Eleanor and Kenny arrived and we had a lovely catch up with them, although the mood of the evening was less lively than usual.  They hadn't seen Lola for a month and couldn't believe how big she is.  She was very happy to see them.

Around 9.30pm we were aware of loud music coming from the direction of Alan's new sitting room.  I sneaked out to see what was happening and this was the scene that greeted me.  Christine and Alan having a good old dance to themselves.  He was loving it!  We definitely made the right decision to move him to that room.  His absolute joy brought some welcome cheer to a sad day.

Something else that brought joy was when I looked at my blip from a year ago today!  We may still have stuff lying in the hall and in other rooms in the house, but at least we are not in the guddle we were this time last year with Alan's health deteriorating.   So happy it's now and not then!
