Big Friendly Giant

Another tree!

An early start for breakfast at Lakeland (we were first in to eat!). Then we wandered round and bought a few useful things, and a few not quite so useful things. We were heading home, as people were just arriving in Windermere and I thought we might as well search out one of ‘The Trees’. It didn’t take much searching, as it was in the grounds of the Cedar Manor Hotel just a few minutes further on the A591. We drove in and parked, assuming that no one would mind if I got out and took a photo, they do invite people to go and have a look at it.

This really is a giant of a tree. It is thought to be 150 years old, the same age as the house that is now the hotel, so almost certainly planted at the same time. It stands right in front of the house and the driveway goes around it. It is possibly a Himalayan Cedar (cedrus deodara), but there is some dispute about exactly which cedar it is. Whatever it is, it is magnificent.

So, the Cedar of the Cedar Manor Hotel – a Big Friendly Giant.
