Fairies Bonnets

This afternoon Pete and I took the dogs for a walk round Southey Wood, in the hope that some fungi would be showing after the recent rain. There were a few, including several rather battered earth-stars, but they were still very sparse. Most of the ones that had appeared had already been nibbled by slugs.

Just at the end of the walk we found a troop of Fairies Bonnets Coprinella disseminata on an old stump. Some had been partially eaten, but there were a few pristine specimens towards the centre of the colony. This is quite a close macro - each cap is less than 1cm in diameter.
