Bus Challenge No 131!!

The Glastonbury Frost Fayre - "An Extravaganza of Seasonal Magnificence!"

www.glastonburyfrostfayre.co.uk

A bright, cold, frosty day, the perfect weather to head over the Mendip Hills to Glastonbury for its annual Frost Fayre, "a heart-warming, magical mix of stalls, food and musical entertainment that takes over the centre of the town."

As usual, Glastonbury was full of lively, colourful characters and we had a lovely afternoon browsing the stalls, enjoying the street entertainment and of course an essential mug of warming Glühwein! Unfortunately we had to leave before the lighting of the Christmas Tree, and unfortunately we didn't have as long in Glastonbury as we had planned. Today's Bus Challenge really was a nightmare of a challenge! Read on if you want to know the boring details...

Our first bus of the day into Bristol was late so we missed our connecting bus to Glastonbury. The next bus to Glastonbury was then half an hour late arriving so we stood waiting in the biting wind in the middle of Bristol for 56 mins! By the time we finally got on the bus we were frozen to the core, and I was on my last legs. But the bus was cosy and, being a double decker, we got to enjoy wonderful views over the Somerset Levels to Glastonbury Tor. Our return bus from Glastonbury was also very late, so once again we knew we'd miss our connection back out of Bristol. Instead we jumped ship in the suburbs of Bristol, and managed to find a bus stop on the Airport Bus route that, after a further 24 mins wait in the cold and dark, finally took us on the last leg of the journey. In total, all the delays added an extra two hours to the trip. Just as well I was wearing my thermals!

Total waiting for and between buses = 2 hours!!
Total bus journey time = 3 hours 19 mins
Total journey time = 5 hours 19 mins

(Will catch-up with comments tomorrow, when hopefully I'll have thawed out...)
