Flower Friday : : Bird Food

The sunflowers volunteered in the middle of Dana's carefully designed landscaping. Then we were displaced for two weeks and had no power or water. We came back not quite knowing what to expect but lo and behold everything seems to be thriving. The sunflowers bloomed and Dana wanted OilMan to take them out, but he insisted on leaving them to dry for a couple of weeks more before cutting off the flower heads and putting them in the birdbath.  The little customer in the picture is a finch who was standing his ground guarding the seeds all for himself. The birds all disappeared for awhile, but most are starting to come back now, except for the woodpeckers, who seem to have given up their condominium in the telephone pole at the bottom of the front garden. Maybe the acorns have smoke taint like the grapes that didn't get harvested in time.

Sorry, Biker Bear. They're not very pretty as flowers go, but try telling that to the birds! Anyway, they are the only thing left in the garden still blooming.
