Helm Crag

Spent the day in and around Grasmere. Another super day, still cold but less windy with lots of early sunshine. Would have been a better day to tackle Blencathra if Susan’s feet had been up to it. New boots caused some blisters and pressure points despite trying to wear them in. She’s ok in her regular walking shoes though.

Grasmere was gently busy with its farmers market, small but very good. We bought a cake for our neighbour who always looks after our house while we are away and a jar of red onion marmalade.

After lunch at Baldry’s we walked around Rydal Water and Grasmere following the coffin route between the village and Rydal. As both places have churches I’m not sure why coffins would need to be moved between the two places.

We caught the last of the afternoon sunshine as the sun set behind the western fells tinging the flanks with an warm orange glow on the bracken.

Difficult to chose today’s blip. The view from Loughrigg Terrace over Grasmere to the village and beyond was a good candidate as were the sunlit trees in Rydal Mount. In the end I settled for Helm Crag with the gentle green and sheep in the foreground.

Our last night, another good evening meal, rounding off our stay at the Inn on the Lake.
