Weitra Christmas Market

The Advent Market at Weitra is renowned but I had never been. Hubby was not keen as you have to get here really early to get a park. This year we came with friends on the local tourist train as we found out it runs to and from the town just for the market. It was a great idea as it is only a 10 minute walk to the old town where the market is held. The castle grounds and rooms also have stalls which is where we started. I actually started with a hot punch - it was a chilly -2 degrees but the snow made it feel really Christmassy. Funny how 5 years ago I used to associate Christmas with a heat wave.It was a fun day despite the chill and the hot garlic soup and hot chocolate consumed during the day helped to warm up the toes. Homemade Schnapps tastings also helped. I ended up buying some Heidelbeer Schnapps, a sort of small blueberry, to warm up any visitors in the next week before we fly to Australia and a warmer Christmas.
