Boston Common Christmas Tree

Here is the beautiful Christmas tree on Boston Common which was lit up with great ceremony on Thursday evening by the city's mayor.  The 53' white spruce was given to the citizens of Boston by the people of Nova Scotia -- a tradition that marks its 100th anniversary this year.  The gift commemorates the city of Halifax's appreciation for emergency aid that was sent from Boston following a disastrous explosion when a French cargo ship carrying explosives collided with a Norwegian vessel.

Speaking of Canadians, Mr. W and I sat next to actor Martin Short yesterday afternoon when we had lunch at Bar Boulud on Boylston Street.  He was dining with a young lady, and wanted her to play a game of cribbage after their meal, even though she insisted she had to leave for an appointment!
