festve art

At first glance, you may think that this photo is not very festive and that I may be stretching the criteria for #festivefeatures.

Let me explain.

It had snowed during the night and the roads were icy, so I drove Luke into work and took the opportunity to visit the new exhibition at Gracefield "Containing Time" by Jane Perryman. You can read more about this wonderful exhibition here. In short, it is the record of an artist's experiences and inspiration over the course of a year. For each of the 52 weeks, a different material or object has been explored through her senses, written about, photographed and used to make a bowl. Added to which is a soundtrack composed by her partner, based on the "pinging" of a well-fired ceramic piece and the ambient sounds around her Suffolk studio.

This particular bowl was inspired, and made using - Christmas tree needles. See?

Quite apart from all that, I am feeling festive because Sarah, who is now a Paediatric Staff Nurse at St George's Hospital in London and will be working at Christmas, is arriving in Dumfries at 10 minutes to midnight this evening for 4 days at home. We will be CELEBRATING!
