Yew are remarkable.

On a walk in the rain this morning we found several Yew trees with remarkable root systems.

Yew roots are capable of growing above ground for considerable distances over rocky outcrops in order to find a place where they can penetrate down into the soil. As Yews grow slowly this horizontal growth can go on for many years and give rise to these unusual snake like structures.
