"I felt you, and I know you loved me"

This is just one fabulous building. The architect won the design competition when he was just 22 years old, and had designed nothing else. An Anglican Cathedral designed by a Roman Catholic. It took 70 years to build, through two world wars and a depression. Along the way he designed other things (Battersea Power Station, and the Bankside Power Station - now Tate Modern - as well as the iconic British telephone box). But this was his life's work, so although he never lived to see it completed (he died in 1960) Giles Gilbert Scott is buried just beyond the entrance steps.

It contains great spaces and  lots of wonderful things. There is lots of tremendous stained glass. At the far end of this building, beyond the Dulverton Bridge and  beneath the Benedictine Window, is a modern artwork in neon - "For You" by Tracey Emin, rendered in her own handwriting. The words, which are in the blip title, can be taken all sorts of ways.

We went up the tower, a first. Despite the grey weather and the wind blowing wildly, the views were quite spectacular. Liverpool has a lot of iconic buildings, but I have always liked the late Georgian (or are they Williamite) terraces in this part of town, so that's my last extra used up.
