Competing Lights

It was the most lovely soft evening out on the wharf. It smelled like vacation, all sea and salty and warm. So many people milling around, families, students, tourists, young lovers. In the space of half an hour I heard at least six different languages. The Sand Guy had carved a New Year's greeting in the sand beneath the pier, but I was after the Super Moon. Although it came up right on schedule, the spectacle only lasted a couple minutes before the moon got swallowed up by the thick clouds. But what a thing to see it rise! Outlandishly big and fat and yellow, and the crowd full of oohs and aahs. Let's call it a good omen and get on with making the world a better place. Happy New Year!

By the way, this is the beginning of my ninth year of keeping a daily photo journal, seven years on Blip, and the first year, 2010, on Blogspot....
