Egyptian Geese: fettered fledgling.

Back blip.

Meh, this is NOT good. This poor fledgling still has its legs bound by fishing line. There are many people trying to free it; as of Sunday 14th, my mother and I have made 3 attempts, but it is so wary of people now that it stays by the water's edge, and scurries/flaps away at the slightest attempt to grab.
It doesn't seem in pain (at least), but isn't practising flying like the others, and spends a lot of time alone because it doesn't like to venture away from the pond when the others graze further away.

The RSPCA have been, but didn't succeed in freeing it; various local people have tried (and continue to try) but now that it can fly (in theory) it can get away surprisingly well despite its bound legs.

In other news (good news), the other fledglings are on excellent form: I saw three of them in unambiguous flight! They were accompanying their parents on a dispute with another adult Egyptian goose (territorial?), which was amusing because they were trying to play along and look threatening and made a lot of noise, but just looked totally adorable and comical alongside the much larger adults. After the father chased off the other goose, both the parents and the three fledglings flew back to the pond! It was SO exciting, and the others all cheered them in.
