Egyptian Geese: one toe in the water.

I've just back blipped a sad fledgling pic for yesterday: the one with bound legs...

This is much more positive, and better in large ("L").
My mother and I went down to the pond this afternoon to try (again) to catch the entangled fledgling and free its legs, but were (again) unsuccessful. It is too wary, and just runs/flaps for the water when you try to approach to get close enough to make an attempt to catch it... Sad times. I so hope someone manages to free it soon.

The others are flying much more confidently now: I've seen three of them fully airborne (meters off the ground for a decent distance), and the others now fly from the island to the edge of the pond whilst skimming the surface with their feet (except for two lazy ones today, which just swam over). This one hardly touched the water at all; it left long patches of undisturbed water, and was, here, cutting the water with only one toe!

I also went to Kew Gardens this afternoon, and have put a beautiful Mandarin drake up on Blipfolio (here). The gardens are absolutely spectacular in autumn; such an amazing array of colours on show.
They also have some lovely waterbirds there on many beautiful lakes (large and small): large (brown/white) cygnets metamorphosing into swans, little grebes, the Mandarin ducks, Egyptian geese...
