Colour extracts for backgrounds

Following on from yesterdays digital group meeting I decided to photograph some colour extracts to use in composite backgrounds.  I've got quite a lot to learn, so I've just been playing to see what effects I can achieve.  I've been playing with a cut-out of Sarah.  I'm really not sure that this is going anywhere but I've learnt a few things about creating brushes and incorporating bits of sky.
