Defunct

Switched on the gas fire last night. Not only would it not work, but acrid smoke blew out. We switched it all off and opened the windows.

Contacted British Gas this morning, the live chat communication worked. A chap from Cadent (which used to be National Grid distribution, what is it about modern rebranding) called and checked gas safety. That was OK so we could use the central heating.

Then this afternoon a chap from British Gas called. Checks revealed a burnt out fan, which 15 years on is now obsolete so cannot be replaced. We will need a new fire.

A little surprising that the electrics and fan sit outside the house, just protected by a basic metal box (blipped the innards). No wonder the fan is heavily rusted. Not sure about 240 volt cables being so exposed to the elements.

And all of that has rather overtaken our Saturday.
