Leaving the hill country

Today we left the hilly area and travelled east and out to the coast. We had an easy drive so turned south and visited the town of Oamaru. I have to confess l had no great hopes for the place and silly me, it was a great little town. We parked just somewhere to have a coffee and found ourselves in Harbour Street, a road housing solid Victorian warehouses now turned into shops and places selling all manner of interesting objects, new and old. We wandered into the local Sunday morning market with beautiful local produce, delicious strawberries and listened to a musician playing his guitar and singing, l rather wished he was selling CDs as l could have played his music driving along further up the coast.
Next to the market was an amazing children's park, all the swings etc were constructed from disused machinery that depicted the past of the towns rich heritage (extra: huge penny farthing bike now part of swings)
