A time for everything

MonoMonday: Technology

Kindle, iPad, iPhone, wireless Bluetooth speaker and noise-reduction headphones with radio - a few of our modern day “gadgets”! We find it hard to think now how we used to get along without some of them. I think back for example to a holiday our family took when I was a teenager and my brother finishing at university. We did a tour of southern Norway. We must have got books out of the library, sent off for information, and everything - ferries, hotels etc  had to be booked by phone or even letter - the whole process must have taken weeks! How much simpler it is to book a trip or book tickets for a concert, theatre etc. these days - everything at the touch of a few keys on our computers, tablets or phones. Other things, such as the kindle and wireless speaker are just more convenient in certain situations, while the noise canceling headphones not only give Roger something to listen to while cutting the grass, but protect his ears from the noise. However, a lot of this technology comes at a price - thinking for example of how so many children and teens now spend so much time glued to screens in the privacy of their own rooms, and spend so much less time being imaginative and creative, spending time in the outdoors and relating with and interacting directly with other children/teens, not to mention the greater dangers that lurk for them on the internet.
