It is a truth universally acknowledged that if you stare at an art work intensively enough, you will be noticeably more cultured at the end of your museum visit than you were at the start, as proven and verified by some of my students and colleague today. This process of education by osmosis  has become an annual activity when attending the Mauritshuis museum as part of our week in the Hague.  And thus it was.

In the evening we managed to lose all our students for a while and joined friends from Florence for dinner and a pint.
