When Blippers go on a world tour

What if you could travel the world, bouncing around from one blipper home to the next? That dream is coming true for Kelso, Rowan, and Trigger – otherwise known as the ‘3 Amigos.’

No, we’ve not repurposed Blipfoto into a travel agency (although come to think of it, wouldn’t that be a great resource?).  And the three friends, each clocking in at 7” tall, will travel in less than economy class :)

The project, dubbed “3 Amigos World Tour” is the brainchild of Peggy Cadigan (aka  Kelso), a librarian in New Jersey, USA. It came about from her love of books and dogs. Here’s how the idea developed: one of Peggy’s favorite books is ‘Flat Stanley’ – the story of a little boy smushed so flat by a bulletin board that he can now slide under doors or fit in an envelop or be flown like a kite. Children read the book and make their own Flat Stanleys out of paper and take photos of him while on vacation with their families.

At the same time, Peggy is a dog lover and her blips often feature her three dogs: Kelso and Rowan -- Irish Wolfhounds -- and Trigger-- a Greyhound. She loves her dogs so much that she found a talented woman who owns sheep, spins her own wool, and made felt miniatures of her dogs for her.

Inspired by the Flat Stanley character, Peggy started taking the figurines with her and taking pictures with them. From there, it was but a small leap to think of the ‘3 Amigos’ traveling the world, with the help of blippers everywhere.  “I love being part of the Blipfoto community and I love seeing blips from other countries.  I thought it would be fun to see my “3 Amigos” in different parts of the world and I thought watching them travel around the world would help to make the connections among members of the Blip community even stronger - by having a common experience.”

The journey started on January 27 and, thanks to Peggy’s existing connections on Blipfoto,  the ‘3 Amigos’ already have hosts waiting for them in Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada and the U.S.

Peggy would love to have more people participate in her project. If you are interested, just send her an email: peggycadigan@gmail.com. If you do host the 3 Amigos, you must agree to send them on to the next person on a list that she maintains (she will schedule the visits by country, to keep everyone’s costs down.)

When asked how long the project will last, she says that it’ll probably take a year to get the figurines around the world and back home. She adds: “I’ll enjoy watching every step of the journey and only wish I were going with them!”

And if you want to watch the progress of their journey, use or query the tag ‘3AmigosWorldTour’.

And by the way, this isn’t the first time one of our mascots travels the world. Have a look here and, of course, you can query the tag #BlipBear :)
