The Moment Of Kill

We were up at 5am for our last game drive at Lalibela Game Reserve, nr Grahamstown, South Africa. It was an overcast morning and for the first couple of hours we didn't see much until we came across this female lioness on her own. As we were watching she got up and a quick walk became a chase after a wart hog..............which she caught.......and the blipfoto shows the moment of kill!  We heard the squeal from the young warthog but death was only a second. My entry for wide Wednesday for nature!!

The other abiding memory of the time spent on the reserve was the stars. Just so clear. The blipfoto extra is taken from our balcony. You could see the Milky Way galaxy by sight which is rare in the UK but easy seen here due to the little light pollution. The light in the extra is from the light in the valley below us which lights the water hole.

Later we took a flight from Port Elizabeth to spend a week with Mrs BB brother who lives on the outskirts of Johannesburg.
