Bug hotel

We put up two or three bug hotels a few years ago, and they're slowly weathering away. The bugs have never seemed to take much interest in them, as can be seen from the empty bamboo tubes, although in the first year a few of the tubes were used by solitary bees. Whether any successfully emerged the following spring I don't know, but they didn't come back the next year as far as I can tell, so maybe we had them set up in an unfavourable position. They'll be looking for somewhere suitable to deposit eggs around June I think, so there's time yet to think about a better siting.
