Chili cook off!

It was Margarita time in the Lupe Pinto's chili cook off by the time we made it to Bennet's Bar. Basically Lupe Pinto's in Tollcross arranged for 10 bars and restaurants in the area to cook up a pot of chili (or chilli...) which the 500 or so people who had bought tickets went around tasting, rating, and voting for their favourite. Mel went with Bennet's, while Henrick's just edged out the Golf Tavern for me. From what we heard on our travels Bennet's was scoring highly however. Which was all better than the Ventoux which ran out!

Really nice afternoon out, made better be rationing the drinks to certain venues (though there were clearly some people on the route had partaken of alcohol in all ten!) and rounded off at a non-cook off venue before we had to make for home, sadly before the results were announced. Next year, for surely it shall be an annual event (it was held only in Glasgow last year, but is in east AND west this year), we'll be better organised, and not having to get up early-ish on the Sunday, with Mel already nursing a slight hangover this morning.

Will be keeping track online to see who won.

Taking part were:
Lebowskis (good start, but middling overall)
Hyde Out (surprisingly good, probably 4th for me)
Indaba (nice, but more a stew than a chilli!)
Ventoux (ran out, boo!)
Cloisters (a bit bitter, like it had been burned, but I know someone who loved it)
El Quijote (heavily peppered, interesting)
Cuckoo's Nest (packed to the gunnels, we bypassed, though heard it wasn't great)
Bennet's (hit equal first with me, especially the option to add a chocolate topping, before...)
Henrick's (nice atmosphere, and just tasty)
Golf Tavern (can't say the bar sold me, but the chilli was my second favourite)

Home now, cat fed, borrowed bike being picked up shortly, and I might as well do a wee macaroon experiment, if the alcohol I have imbibed won't hinder that.
