Filling in the gap - view from the Icelandair Hotel window on the day our route was closed.

We experienced some very difficult driving conditions and blizzards while we were in Iceland and this view shows the calm at the end of a very challenging day when our route to Jokulsarlon was closed due to drifting snow and we had to find emergency accommodation.  We were well on the way by the time they closed the road and we had to return back to Klauster.  I'd spotted a sign for accommodation as we got back to the Klauster Services and the young man who was serving helped me to find a phone number.  What he found was the number for the Icelandair Hotel and not the one I spotted but as it turned out it was a fantastic hotel and we still managed to get a room each.

Cheryl did an amazing job of driving in these dreadful conditions and as I was up front on this trip I could see exactly how bad it all was.  Fortunately by the following morning they'd cleared the road and we were on our way.  A couple of our group took the opportunity to explore in the vicinity ok the hotel whereas I, who hadn't been sleeping well, tried to catch up on sleep, though not very successfully.

The image in `extra' was taken well before the driving conditions became very bad.
