Archaeological dig

The morning was finely tuned so that we were in an area with phone reception to receive a scheduled call. Fortunately, it was on one of our regular beachside walks and, even better, the call came in as promised so we could buzz off for coffee and hearty soup with a clear mind.
We are trying hard to organise a family holiday but it feels like the stars don't want to align. Can't book the place to stay until we can sort flights; can't sort flights when our internet is so poor; can't book anything until Poppydog has a place to go! Maybe we just won't bother ...
This afternoon we tackled a job we have delayed and now need to sort promptly. Over the years a flight of steps has done an amazing disappearing act (partly due to negligence but also building work - honest) and we needed to rediscover them in order that they don't get buried forever during landscaping work. I did wonder at what point excavated items become 'fascinating archaeological finds' as supposed to 'rubbish' (I'm being extremely polite here!). We not only found our rotting steps but also: a wheel hub, sheet of corrugated iron, trowel, a bucket handle, old hose spray fitting, ubiquitous plastic, sweet wrappers (frighteningly indestructible) ... a pile of ... rubbish!!!!
Poppydog was supervising as usual - just in case we found a bunny to chase ;-)
