Life in Sunny Dubai

CNY Celebrations

I've been wanting to check out City Walk for ages; especially at dusk, so finally got to it today. The fact they had Chinese lanterns up made it more interesting.

We got there to find a real buzz and soon realised it was the start of Dubai Innovation week and a dignitary was coming to open it, so we hung around to make sure we didn't miss anything. The area near the new Hyperloop seemed particularly special and sure enough, that's was the first port of call. It turned out to be Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince! The extra has more pictures of the event.

I'm glad G took her camera as mine soon ran out of battery. G put on a press photographer hat and I managed to get tickets to check out the hyperloop. Twelve minutes from Dubai to Abu Dhabi at 1,200km/h and apparently it is going to be a reality soon.

We then wandered around looking at the other "innovative" displays... there was a pod showing the future - wireless electricity got my attention. Dubai Police had a few things to show including their environmentally friendly cars, new motorbikes, and most interesting of all, pedal bikes for a new police unit which I guess will patrol densely populated areas. We even chatted with some commando-looking policewomen.

We then had to look for our dinner venue - Burger Joint New York; not a place I've heard of before but we had a 2for1 voucher, so they got our business. They were at the far end, so we got to check out more of this very interesting development. On the way, we saw the dragon heading to its performance spot. The guys were more than happy to be photographed.

Found the Burger Joint and I have to say, they make really tasty burgers. They looked small but were very filling. Food eaten, we headed back home to a Catherine Cookson movie courtesy of YouTube. Another weekend begins. Hope you have a good one.
