Silver Sax.

“The encrusted or Silver Saxifrages make up a race so far ahead of every other in general value that a rock garden can be glorious with nothing else and without them could not be really glorious at all.”

Reginald Farrer, Plant Hunter, 1919.

This is a very small example in a stone trough just outside the back door. I have a friend who has written a book on these plants and has a collection of 500 varieties. Some have magnificent flower spikes like S. Longifolia which I have seen in the Pyrenees.

Now that Mr. Putin is sending this weather to disrupt our economy it is nice to be able to find blips in the garden.
