No snow in here

Another bitterly cold day and very icy underfoot. Our lane is like a skating rink although a snow plough came along again but all it did was push some ice about.

It's been hard work making sure the chickens, ducks and geese are kept warm and have fresh water. Although the warning is not to travel we went to the supermarket where people seemed to be stocking up on essentials. Collected two bales of straw from the Feedbarn and now their houses and runs are full of straw. Their food was surprisingly delivered and the driver said our lane was the worst he had driven on today. A couple of hours was spent in the field wiring, including carrying buckets of hot water from the house and smashing the ice in their troughs
That ensured they had drinking water and that the ducks could get in their troughs rather than stand on the ice. It has probably frozen over again as it's been snowing heavily for a few hours.

How long will this cold spell last? We are told that on Sunday the temperature will be 7C and no doubt the snow will melt and we will have mud!

My blip is of Sylvie, one of the August babies standing on a shelf in her run, which in spite it it now being opened, she never leaves. With her is Goldie one of the cockerals who may be her Dad but now seems to be her boyfriend.

I am pleased to know that the other August baby is also a girl as we have quite a lot of cockerals and didn't want go add to them. Although we would have let them stay
