Great Haywood Marina.

Our part of the marina had patches of clear water and the canal outside the entrance was clear water.   So we decided to "go for it" and take Solace out to see how far we could get.  To make the turn we had to do a bit of "ice breaking" -three of us with poles/boat hooks (or cabin shafts if you prefer the correct term) jabbing down on to the ice.

We got out of the entrance and turned OK, so off we went down the canal for ............300 m (or yards if you prefer).  Realising we weren't going to get very far we tied up and had a bacon butty.  We then reversed to the marina, no mean feat if you have ever tried reversing a narrow boat.  Well done "the Mate".  By the time we were back in the berth it was lunch time (or near enough).

After a long leisurely lunch we headed down to the cafe at the farm shop.  The cafe was surprisingly busy,I suppose being Sunday afternoon was the main reason.  So a pleasant while there followed by a walk along the canal to "suss" out the situation.  It looks as if we won't be going anywhere until there is a thaw.

The blip is the main part of the marina as viewed from the office building.  When we fished a chunk of ice out of the canal and measured it it was 50 mm (2" ish) and thicker in some places.
