Psycho Rat

Backblipped on 23rd October 2012

Here she is, the lovely Viviane, aka Viv the Psycho Rat!

She's very beautiful, just very nervous and a bit nibbly - athough much less nibbly now than she was.

And despite the fact that she nearly dethumbitated me, I still adore her - who wouldn't with a sweet face like that.

This was the day that we moved her and Formosa (who kept biting the Wonderspouse) into a cage as a pair. Neither of them really coped in the large mischief in which most of our girls live. Most of them love the big cage, and adore playing in there and hanging out together. Formosa, however, was bullying a lot of the others, and needed to be boss of her own domain, and Viv needed a quieter environment to keep her calm.

I'm happy to report that their twosome is a great success. They're really happy together, enjoy snuggling up in their hammock, and are both much calmer and happier in a more peaceful environment. Formosa is boss, and Viv is happy to defer to her. Viv is less nervy with fewer things going on around her and the peace and quiet to retreat to an igloo by herself when she needs.

One thing I've found with keeping rats is to look out for them and for what each individual rat needs to keep them happy and healthy. Like humans, they're all individuals, and what suits one, may not suit another. If they need another cage setting up, then it's my job to do that, and to look after them.

I don't think Viv will ever shake her nickname now, but she'll be no less loved for being a bit nibbly.

Bless her!
