Choral Competition

Our choir took part in the MAPAS* Choral and Vocal Festival today, held at Moorside School. Yesterday was school and college choirs, today was adult choirs and solo/duo categories.

Featured in the blip are three of the choirs today. Top the Ordsall Acapella Singers, middle the Pendleton College Chamber Choir, and bottom members of Salford Choral Society.

We were commended, but overall winner was the Pendleton College Chamber Choir. These youngsters have got real talent -they sang two numbers, "When All the Saints" in a tremendous arrangement by John Rutter, and "Danny Boy" (it is St Patrick's Day after all), in a really good arrangement by Bob Chilcott.

The feedback from the head judge (it's like being on the X Factor) was good. He did describe me as "brave". I am the only man in our choir. Get more men the judge said - we'll have to have another try.

Considering we only rehearse an hour a week, we've made really good progress.

Not the best of pics (phone in a dark concert hall), but I wanted a bit of a record of the day.

* MAPAS = Salford's Music and Performing Arts Service. They do real good work with schools and local communities.
